Ordovician glacial-marine sediments - Barrios de Luna (León)
Drops of Ordovician glacial-marine sediments

In the picture a "tear" of Ordovician glacial-marine sediments included in bluish quartzites of the Barrios Formation. The quartzite presents cutting edges, the blue color is due to the reduction of the iron minerals. During the Cambrian the plants were absent, having an atmosphere with a low content of oxigen.

Barrios de Luna (León) Ver Localización is a intersting place from the geological point of view. The Palaeozoic beds that we can observe in this area was exposed due to the Alpine Orogeny because the uplift of the Hercinic Basement, this Orogeny produced important folding as the Syncline of Alba is. The picture was taken at this place.
